Lions Get MLB Chris Spielman Prototype with Second Round Pick

Lions Get MLB Chris Spielman Prototype with Second Round Pick
Â
With the Lions 45th overall (2nd Round) pick they addressed their glaring need at MLB. They got themselves a player with a high motor and nearly perfect technique. The issue that kept him out of the first round was his size. He is 6’ tall and people are leery of his size.
Â
Before you put too much stock in that, remember this fact. There was a great Lions MLB names Spielman that slipped because people thought his size was an issue. Now let’s be frank and admit that he has a long way to go, but the two are eerily similar. Marinelli talked about the similarities by saying, “That’s his whole deal (Dizon) he is productive and plays with high energy and brings something special to the locker room.â€
Â
Sticking with the Spielman talk, I asked Jordan about the comparisons to him and he said, “Matt Millen actually talked to me about him…I went and looked him up and he was a pretty good player, that is a compliment.â€
Â
The strengths of Dizon is that has a strong work ethic. He loves football. His technique is as good as any MLB already in the NFL and the one area of weakness (other than size) is that he at times struggles in pass defense. That is an area that I addressed with Millen and he said, “I didn’t see that, he is pretty good in space.â€
Â
When Dizon was asked what he liked about his visit to the Lions, “They like players that can play and they don’t like players that BS. I didn’t (BS) them at all.â€
Â
It would be unfair to expect him to be a Spielman at this point in his career, but his high motor and nearly perfect technique certainly have to encourage the Lions. He is a tough kid that plays hurt and most of all he is the type of workout warrior that the Lions love. The fans will also.
