LIONS HEAD COACH ROD MARINELLI TALKS AFTER PRACTICE

On injury status: "Cory Redding has a slight groin pull from the other night, so we wanted to keep him out. Damien Woody had surgery on his hand - everything went well, he should be up and ready in two weeks; full ready to go - cast that thing up and he's off and running. Glenn Martinez has a slight ankle sprain. We worked him a little bit this morning and then we backed off him and (we'll) let him heal up. James Hall is a little bit tight in the (hamstring) and we didn't want to keep running him today. He was fine and probably could have finished but we just backed off him a little bit today."
On today's workout: "I wanted to come out today - we had a very heavy practice the other night, it was a good practice - about a 115 snaps in pads and that's a good workout for us. We wanted to come out today - and today was a long, long teaching day - a lot of position meetings, special teams meetings, walkthroughs, and we slowed down most of our periods to a teaching tempo. So we just got the details and exactness of our blitzes, blitz pick-up, our run game and all those things. Then we finished the last couple of periods getting back to normal team - got them running. Tonight cleaning things up and then tomorrow we'll be in pads and we'll get another good day."
On the appearance that the staff is easing up in practice: "We had 115 snaps (Saturday night), is that's easing up? We had 115 snaps on Saturday night; we had Sunday off; if you had a game and played that many snaps, (that's what you would do). So we had a lot of work today. We'll get back in pads tomorrow. They hit a lot that night and they were really kind of cranked up to play and they ran hard - you have to be smart about that."
On DT Shaun Cody being back: "He's really basically full(strength) right now; you just kind of bring him in by spots. You can't overdo it too quick on him, but he's ready to go."
On starting to look at the Broncos tapes: "Oh we will - not yet. I still want today and tomorrow to really keep the focus on us and just work on the fundamentals. Wednesday and Thursday we'll devote the whole days to Denver and to some of their schemes but still going in to do what we do. You don't want to over gameplan somebody - you want to see what they're doing. Right now it's still about our fundamentals and what we're doing."
On whether they've talked about the amount of playing time for players: "Not quite yet - we're going to talk about it maybe tomorrow night and see where we're at injury wise and all those things: who can play and how much we want to play them."
On getting a little lift in tempo with a game coming up: "I think so - you hope not, you hope not. You hope if you just kind of pound the rock and everything and every swing is the same - that's what you hope you're working toward (consistent tempo). When you have a game late in the year, you hope you're still consistent; hopefully, that's the way you eliminate these ups and downs in the season and just go play the snaps we're in and play them as well as we can."
On what you can learn about the team in preseason games: "Can you trust them? A big thing is this league, to me, is trust. A guy you can show under duress, fatigued, tired, can he do what you ask him to do snap in and snap out? Can you trust him game day? That's a big part of it."
On what you can do when a player catches your eye in a preseason game: "You give them a little more duress and see if they can keep doing it."
On monitoring CB Fernando Bryant: "Yeah, I still am a little bit. He's out there doing more and more everyday. Especially at the corners, because they have to open up - it's not like a lineman or something, they can get more work in - but those corners, they have to turn and open up and we have to make sure that things are right, because I want him healthy. He came back in last time a little too soon."
