Lugnuts Take Final Game of Series
Manager Ken Joyce Wins 300th Game

- The Lansing Lugnuts took a 6-5 decision over the Fort Wayne Wizards on Wednesday afternoon before 2,788 fans at Memorial Stadium. The win salvaged one game of the series for Lansing and also gave Lugnuts' manager Ken Joyce his 300th career triumph.With the score tied in the eighth inning, Jacob Butler ripped a two out single to right field to plate Anthony Hatch. The run gave Lansing the deciding 6-5 advantage.

The Lugnuts had taken an early lead in the first by scoring three runs. Sean Shoffit and Jason Armstrong each reached base before Hatch smacked a triple into right-center field to score both runners. Brian Pettway's sacrifice fly extended the Lugnuts' lead to 3-0.

Fort Wayne took the lead in the fifth inning, scoring four runs off of Lansing starter Kristian Bell. Will Venable cracked a two run homer to make it a 3-2 game. After Kyle Blanks doubled, Nick Hundley laced a single into left field to tie the game at 3-3. He later scored on an infield single by Daryl Jones that gave the Wizards a 4-3 lead.

The Lugnuts regained the lead in the seventh when Shoffit blasted his second homer of the season, a two run bomb over the left-center field wall that made it 5-4.

However the Wizards tied the game again in the bottom half of the inning when a Jesus Lopez groundout plated Jones.

Joey McLaughlin (3-1) got the win for the Lugnuts, throwing the final 2 1/3 innings while holding the Wizards hitless.

Jon Link (3-4) took the loss, allowing one run on two hits over the last two frames.

Lansing (43-31, 3-4) will return home on Thursday night to open an eight game homestand against the Clinton LumberKings. Adrian Martin (2-0, 5.45) will take the hill for the Lugnuts, while Jake Rasner (4-8, 3.96) will get the call for Clinton. It will be a Molson Thirsty Thursday, with beer and soda on sale for $2. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. at Oldsmobile Park.
