MHSAA Boys Basketball Report - February 19th, 2014

One week from Monday, we will have finished with the regular season and be into the post season tournament! There isn’t much time left folks! These players are working hard and deserve our support. Go to a game! It’s starting to warm up a bit outside, so stop hibernating and head to the local gym to support your local team. Grab a burger after and make a night out of it! These games are a lot of fun for the cheap price you pay for entrance. On top of the game, you usually get a pep band and cheerleaders during the game and usually a pompon routine at halftime. Kids remember going to the games when they are young and they get to imagine themselves and classmates being on the varsity squad one day. Help a kid dream; take them to a basketball game!

High Score of the Week

Bear Lake 99 Big Rapids Crossroads Academy 72 (171 points)

A nice big score with no report. I did find some photos of the game though.

Low Score of the Week

Calumet 32 Painesdale-Jeffers 22 (54 points)

This was a low scoring game because of the offense. Calumet likes to keep it slow. Leading all scorers was Paul Torola with 16 for Calumet. Jack Hyrkas scored 10.  In the losing effort, Brant Ryynanen scored nine and Zach Nicholas scored seven.

Cottrell’s BLOWOUT of the Week

Burton St. Thomas More Academy 95 Burton Faith 22 (73 points)

Seriously? Only one write-up this week? That is kind of lame! Maybe we should look at another blowout game.  Let’s see who was #2!

Cottrell’s BLOWOUT of the Week, Second Try

Ypsilanti Arbor Preparatory 88 Newport Lutheran South 28 (60 points)

It was 30-9 after a quarter and 54-17 at the half. Leading the scoring effort for Ypsi Arbor was Amir Osborn who scored 12 points. Julius Davis, Adrian Harrison, and Nick Jones each scored 11. Connor Carr led all scorers with 13 points in the losing effort.
