MHSAA Football - Week Nine Recap

Let’s make this short and sweet. The playoff pairings have been announced and everyone is gearing up for that. One last look at the regular season and then we can look into the playoffs. And away we go!

Sagin-Awesome

Arthur Hill 28 Saginaw High 0

The Lumberjacks were just bigger (in size) than the Trojans. They were able to bully their way into the end zone multiple times. Will Rodgers, the sophomore, lined up at tight end and at running back. He looks good, but needs to add some strength. Arthur Hill quarterback Billy Burton completed none of his six passes but ran six times for 31 yards and a score. Malik Moore rushed 16 times for 81 yards and two scores. Will Rodgers ran twice for eight yards. As for Saginaw High, they were blanked for the sixth straight game. Quarterback E’Donis Scott completed seven of his 15 passes for 41 yards and two interceptions. Alex McCall was his favorite target with three catches for 17 yards. Steven Gaddy rushed eight times for 71 yards while E’Donis Scott rushed nine times for seven. (On a side note, want to see me get fired up quick? Call my hometown SagNasty. The volume of my voice will rise and you will see the anger in my eyes.)

Midland City Championship

Midland Dow 35 Midland High 17

Although the Chemics suffered their first losing season since 1976, it’s not like they were terrible before that. They have had two losing seasons since 1967. Unfortunately, their streak is broken, but now they have motivation for the offseason. For Dow, quarterback Alec Marty completed 15 of his 21 passes for 207 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions. Mike Robb caught seven of them for 87 yards and a score while Devontae Stine caught four passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns. Caleb Richard rushed 23 times for 128 yards and a score. On the Midland side, quarterback Luke DeLong completed six of his 13 passes for 84 yards and a score. Bryce Kantak caught two passes for 54 yards while Virgil Walker caught three for 33 yards and a score. DeLong was also the leading rusher with 14 runs for 51 yards and a score. Vondre Warren rushed 14 times for 49 yards.
