MHSAA Football - Week Seven Review

The end of the regular season is near. With another week in the history books, we can start to see the playoff picture come together. Teams are starting to feel the aches of seven games but there is no slowing down now. Play hard and play tough through the end of the season! Let’s take a look at what transpired last week around the state.

Detroit

Monroe St. Mary Catholic 33 Riverview 0

Turnovers killed Riverview. They had their first two fumbles of the year which is tough to overcome. For SMCC, Justin Carribino was the sparkplug of the offense with 22 carries for 141 yards and two touchdowns. He also recorded a nine yard touchdown reception. Bryce Windham passed for two touchdowns and made an interception on defense. John Lako rushed 14 times for 81 yards while Mitchell Lamore carried seven times for 57 yards which included a 43 yard scoring scamper.

Capital Area

Lansing Catholic 50 Williamston 14

The game was close in the first half. Going in the break, Lansing Catholic held a 21-12 advantage but it was all Cougars after that. The defense forced five second half turnovers (four interceptions). Leading the way was quarterback Tony Poljan who completed 20 of his 28 passes for 404 yards and four touchdowns. He also carried 16 times for 50 yards and two scores. Tony Palmer caught six passes for 117 yards and also ran nine times for another 65 yards and a score. Zach Baker and Michael Korey both went over 100 yards receiving (5-111 for Baker, 3-108 for Korey.)  Williamston quarterback Chaz Moore completed 13 of his 32 passes for 108 yards, one score, and five picks while rushing 10 times for 44 more and a score. Hayden Toone toted the rock six times for 36 yards

Flint Area

Byron 36 Flint Hamady 22

Byron was able to force four turnovers and come away with the victory. Wyatt Beard led the way for Byron with four catches for 141 yards and two scores while also rushing 10 times for 61 more and a score. Hunter Tonti tossed both touchdown passes for Byron. On the Hamady side, quarterback Amarr Blake completed 17 of his 40 passes for 271 yards. Both teams have a long hard climb if they are going to play past Week Nine.

Sunset Side

Muskegon Oakridge 50 Whitehall 22

Sometimes when your quarterback only completes six of his 16 passes, you don’t think you’re doing that great. Not in this case for Oakridge’s Brady Luttrull though! Those six passes went for 238 yards and four touchdowns along with one interception. Those big strikes helped propel Oakridge to another conference title and a playoff berth. Making a lot of those big plays was James Cooper III who caught three passes for 135 yards and two scores. Brock Luttrull had a 12 yard scoring catch. Kolin Chahorski grabbed a 65 yard scoring strike and ran 18 times for 145 yards and two scores. Kaleb Cook rushed twice for 77 yards and a score. For Whitehall, quarterback Zarren Aylor completed seven of his 15 passes for 118 yards and two score. Keenan Aylor grabbed two passes for 56 yards a score. Jwan Britton also found the end zone on his two catches for 41 yards.
