Another week completed. The weather is starting to turn brisk. I’ve started to see more blankets and coats at football games (but you still see the crazies wearing shorts still.) Games only gets more intense from here on out. Some teams are already in danger of missing the playoffs because they haven’t won any games yet. Other teams are riding high. Let’s take a look at last week’s games and how they turned out.

Detroit

Grosse Pointe North 33 Macomb L’anse Creuse North 21

This was a close game in the first half. At the break, Grosse Pointe North was ahead 13-7. To open the third quarter, quarterback Daniel Robinson threw a 76 yard touchdown to fullback Martice Dunlap and hit tight end Andrew Lock for a 51 yard touchdown strike later in the third. Robinson finished the game with 224 yards and three scores, completing 10 of his 11 passes. He also ran 11 times for 73 yards and two touchdowns. Lock caught six passes for 118 yards and two scores. Tod Long ran 27 times for 114 yards. On the Macomb side, quarterback Sean Koski had 296 passing yards.

Flint

Lapeer West 19 Lapeer East 13

This game was standing room only…if you could find a place to stand. 4,200 fans were in attendance. The score was tied at 13 until 1:17 remained to play. At that point, West senior Noah Raymond picked off a pass and returned it 29 yards for a touchdown. East marched right back down the field, but the drive stalled at the 14 yard line on fourth down. West quarterback Hunter Sharrad completed 16 of his 30 passes for 169 and two scores and ran twice for 21 additional yards. Mark Cox caught 10 passes for 69 yards while Matt Place reeled in four for 32 yards and two scores. Maleek Deverell ran eight times for 26 yards. For East, quarterback Eli Hunt completed 16 of his 31 attempts for 205 yards and that fateful interception. Kyle Rachwal grabbed six passes for 83 yards and rushed 11 times for 32 and two scores.   Travis Mersino ran 14 times for 52 yards.

Grand Rapids

Muskegon 45 Rockford 0

Ouch. You know when a program like Rockford gets beat like this, someone is playing VERY well. Muskegon quarterback Deshaun Thrower completed five of his nine passes for 49 yards while running 16 times for 218 and two scores. Joeviair Kennedy caught two passes for 28 yards and a score. Javanutae Thomas ran 12 times for 22 yards and a score. John Hall rushed the ball four times for 62 yards. Even though the Big Red defense was dominating, Rockford still chose to run into the teeth of the defense. Darian Vaughn rushed eight times for 17 yards to lead Rockford. Landen Hanney completed one of his two passes for 40 yards.

Menominee 40 Harbor Beach 21

The Menominee defense plundered the pirates offense. They sacked Harbor Beach quarterback Eli Kraft eight times. They blocked a punt. They intercepted passes. I heard they were even replacing the divots on the field. It was a good game for the Maroons. They even had a 19 play drive that ended on an incomplete pass on fourth and five from the seven yard line, but chewed up a huge portion of the third quarter. Kraft had a decent game in the losing effort. He completed 15 of his 25 passes for 185 yards. He also ran 27 times for 74 yards. Josh Schelke caught 11 passes for 136 yards. Menominee had 227 rushing yards. They were led by Devon Harris, who ran 11 times for 94 yard and a score. Justin Brilinski ran 13 times for 84 yards and a score, while also completing five of his nine passes for 20 yards and a touchdown. James Brown ran 12 times for 41 yards and scored twice. He also had a 50 yard pick-six in the first quarter. Devon Barley hauled in three passes for 20 yards and a score.
