The teams were fairly evenly sized, but I would have to say that Flint Powers is slightly bigger.There was another good crowd for the Class B final; although there was not as many as the Class A final, the Breslin was filled nicely. Powers 6’7” senior center Rodney Anderson started the scoring with a nice dunk.The game moved quickly because there was not a lot of fouling.By the mid point of the first quarter, the game was tied 10.Each team had made some good plays and muffed others.Korey VanDussen made a really nifty altered move in the lane and got it to fall, retaking the lead 13-12 with 2:30 left in the first.There was a wild sequence where everyone was scrambling for the ball and trying to keep it inbounds which ended the first quarter with the score still in Zeeland East’s favor 13-12.Much of the second quarter was sloppy and full of missed shots.The first four minutes of the game saw each team score ten points; the following eight only saw each team score eight points.It was tied at 18 with 3:48 before the half.That’s when the scoring picked up.Flint Power’s Patrick Lucas-Perry scored back to back baskets and the Chix of Zeeland East scored a few as well.When the buzzer sounded, it was Flint Powers 26 Zeeland East 24.

Early in the third, Power’s Shane Moreland picked up his third foul and had to sit.The refs were not calling a lot of fouls; there were times I swore I saw a defender hit the shooter and nothing was called.The Chix didn’t score until about the 5:30 mark and that was only a pair of free throws.Offense picked up from there and Zeeland tied the game at 35 at the 3:15 mark.With the third quarter winding down, Powers got aggressive.They got a put-back bucket, stole the ball on the inbound pass, scored again.At the end of three, it was Flint Powers 42 Zeeland East 39.Rodney Anderson had another nice dunk for Powers off the alley-oop pass.On the next trip down the floor, he had another basket, pushing Powers lead to nine with just under six minutes to play.It seemed that Powers was just out-hustling Zeeland.The defense of Powers Catholic clamped down on Zeeland but they finally scored their first points of the fourth quarter with 2:12 left in the game, but by that point, it was 52-41.Zeeland’s offense picked up, but it was too little, too late.The final score was 62-54 Flint Powers Catholic.

Flint Powers shot just under 43% from the floor.Leading scorer on the night was Patrick Lucas-Perry with 25.Patrick O’Brien pulled down 13 rebounds.For Zeeland East, they shot 35% on the night.Center Nate Snuggerud was the high scorer for the Chix with 14 points.He was also pulled down the most boards on his team with 11.
