Welcome to 2011 fans of the Prep Sports Report on Spartan Nation! It was a nice and relaxing time off for the Cottrell family, until I got sick the last few days while visiting my in-laws. We did have a good time up until that point. My daughter even tried lutefisk. For those in the know, lutefisk is something “special.” Now that we’ve had our lutefisk discussion, we shall get on with the basketball!

High Score of the Week

Olivet 93 Marshall 90 (183 points)

For such a high scoring game, I couldn’t find much in the way of accounts about the game. Olivet’s Tim Johnson scored 24 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, blocked a shot, and tossed an assist. Jay Cousineau chipped in 21 points. He also grabbed three rebounds, blocked a shot, stole three balls, and threw four assists.

Coach Cottrell’s BLOWOUT of the Week

Detroit Westside Christian 91 Warren Macomb Christian 16 (75 points)

For this blowout, all I could find were stats for the winning team. I guess Macomb Christian was a bit embarrassed to make my list this week so they didn’t publish the stats. Robert Davis scored 21 points, pulled down six rebounds, stole five balls, and tossed two assists. Kaion Seales helped out by scoring 13, grabbing 10 rebounds, blocking four shots, and passing for one assist.

Low Score of the Week

Walled Lake Central 31 White Lake Lakeland 29 (60 points)

It wasn’t an easy victory, but Walled Lake Central pulled off a come-from-behind victory, although it took a 14-0 run to do it. The last bucket came with 1:25 left to play when W-L Central’s Zach Leimbach drove the lane, hit the bucket, was fouled, and nailed his free throw to complete the three point play. Liemach and Adam Coric each scored nine points. In the losing effort, Ryan Zukowski and Troy Baertson each scored six points.

Future Spartan Watch

Patrick Lucas-Perry, Flint Powers High School (offered, but no commitment)

Patrick plays for the top ranked team in Michigan, despite being a Class B school (and #22 nationally, according to MaxPreps.) His coach, Tim Herman considers him the “floor general” and averages 16.6 points per game and eight assists. In an 81-60 victory over Traverse City Central on January 7th, Lucas-Perry hit 69% of his shots (11 for 16) for 26 points. He also tossed five assists. Patrick is also getting interest from CMU, Michigan, Oakland, Ohio, and South Florida.
