It’s official; Terrelle Pryor the nation’s top football prospect for the 2008 recruiting class is an Ohio State Buckeye. Pryor waited until after his basketball season to announce the Buckeyes while Penn State, Michigan and Oregon fans wished that the super quarterback had picked them.

We have discussed the ramifications this would have on the Michigan football program, but we feel it necessary to recap what is widely known as the obvious. Terrelle Pryor was the one recruit that could dispel all of the Wolverine anxiety. He was the perfect QB to run M-Rod’s spread option offense and there is no other QB in the Wolverine hopper that will fit the new system.

Instead, the Wolverines are staring down the barrel of a gun loaded with uncertainty as their two archrivals (OSU, MSU) load up on bumper 2009 recruiting classes. The battle for Michigan talent is clearly being won by MSU. Ohio State owns Michigan in the border rivalry and their chief rival just walked away with the grand prize of the 2008 recruiting sweepstakes. This further cements the Wolverine’s consummate fall from the Big Ten football thrown.

A Pryor commitment would have meant the Wolverines could have saved face even with a sub-par 2008 on-the-field performance. The Wal-Mart Wolverines would have told all of their family and friends that cheer for either of their rivals that it is a function of Michigan getting a new system in place. They would be able to point to a 2009 season and talk of a return to the Rose Bowl. They will now be talking about whether or not they can manufacture a QB from the current roster to run a system that depends heavily on an athletic quarterback that can run as well as throw. Good luck with that Wolvies. I’d sooner bet on Hondo in a hot dog eating competition versus a Grizzly Bear.

The losses of Chad Henne and Mike “the mouth” Hart to graduation are going to be costly. The losses of both Manningham and Arrington from the UM receiving corps spell disaster for the Wolverine offense. The loss of Terrelle Pryor to Ohio State spells 3-4 years of total domination of the Wolverines by Jim Tressel. It’s a great day to be a Buckeye and pretty darn good one if you’re a Spartan.
