RED WINGS AGREE TO TERMS WITH RAFALSKI

Detroit, MI…Red Wings General Manager Ken Holland today announced the team has agreed to contract terms with defenseman Brian Rafalski on a five-year contract. In keeping with club policy, additional terms of the deal are not available.
Rafalski, a two-time Stanley Cup winner with the New Jersey Devils (2000 and 2003), is a three-time NHL All-Star (in seven NHL seasons) and was born in Dearborn, MI.
“We’re very pleased to have Brian join the Red Wings,” said Holland. “With his mobility and puck-handling skills, he is a perfect fit for our style of play. He is from the Detroit area and it will be great to have him in a Red Wings sweater.”
“I couldn’t be happier,” said Rafalski. “All of my family and friends are very excited and I’m really looking forward to have the opportunity to return to Michigan and play for the Red Wings.”
Rafalski is coming off of back-to-back seasons in which he played all 82 regular-season games for New Jersey and was selected to the NHL All-Star game both years. Born in Dearborn, MI, Rafalski was a member of Team USA for the 2002 Olympics, earning a Silver Medal.
