It’s that time of year! The madness of March has kicked off and we next weekend we will see who is crowned the new kings of the court. Last night ended with Regional Championship trophies being handed out and Tuesday’s quarterfinal games will set the stage for the Breslin Center. For $21, you can watch a full day of basketball and have a great day out with the family, the boys, the old roommates, or whomever you want to go with! What else you going to spend the money on, a trip to Applebee’s? You won’t remember what you ate, but you will remember the games!

This was an exciting game! Matthew Hunter made a three pointer to tie the game with only six seconds remaining in overtime. Derrick Nix, Tevin Conrad, and Juwan Howard and all fouled out for the Doughboys. It was all up to Keith Appling. He took the inbounds pass with six seconds remaining, got past half court, and launched a bomb with two seconds on the clock which exploded the dreams of the Henry Ford players as the clock struck zero. Appling finished with 29 points, including the last nine for Pershing. Demario Prince and Matthew Hunter each scored 26 for Ford.

Dundee’s defense came ready to work against St. Mary Catholic Central. They jumped out to a 10-0 lead and blocked three of the Falcons first five shots. It wasn’t until 10.5 minutes had run off the clock that SMCC scored a bucket. Justin Tincher only missed one shot on the night and scored 16 points for Dundee. Keenan Wetzel led St. Mary Catholic Central with eight points.

Melvindale Academy for Business & Tech 88 Riverdale Gabriel Richard Catholic 39 (49 points)

ABT dominated in the paint against Riverdale Gabriel Richard Catholic. 22 of their 24 second quarter points were scored in the paint. Point guard Michael Talley III scored 13 as did his teammate Delance Wilson. For RGRC, Bobby Stackpoole had 12 points and six rebounds.

So Who's Left and Where Are They From?

Of the 32 teams still playing boys basketball, they are spread evenly across the state. Detroit and the West Coast are tied with nine teams still in the hunt. “Mid-ish Michigan has seven teams as does Northern. For northern, I used US-10 as the divider, because that’s the argument always given to me as to where northern Michigan begins for football season. US-10 goes through Midland, Clare, Reed City, and Ludington. Of those seven “northern” teams, for are from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
