This years Badgers would appear to only have one true weakness or question mark. Unfortunately for them it is at the most important position: QB. This years Badgers will be tough and they will come out and attack you.Â
Bielema is one of the top young coaches in the nation and two separate people who are good friends of him tell me that he would jump for the Iowa job should Ferentz leave. Bielema not only played at Iowa, but he also has a Hawkeye tattoo that is a sore subject among Badger fans.
Bielema’s strength is his ability to take what teams give him. Last year against MSU, the Spartans should have won the game. Questionable play calling on both sides of the ball on MSU’s part cost the Spartans a chance at a win. MSU destroyed them statistically, but in the end Bielema was able to get the win. His trademark is hard work and a commitment to smash mouth football. He and Dantonio are actually good friends and they run their programs with similar styles and commitments to integrity. One of the best compliments you can give a Bielema coached team is that they simply find ways to win. They aren’t always the most talented, but they win. You can’t knock that!
The DL is where the Badgers will start their attack and it is a good one. It is deep and they will attack and they have an excellent group of LB’s behind them. They have three of their top four DB’s back from last season, but that doesn’t mean much. The DB’s will be the Achilles heel of the D and as MSU showed last season, they are vulnerable to a solid passing attack. Whoever attacks Wisconsin through the air will have to have a solid OL to give a QB time with that amazing pass rushing attack.
Going back to the offense the strength is the OL and the RB’s. The Badgers will attack on the run and you haven’t seen a team that likes to run like these Badgers since George Perles had a TB named Lorenzo White.
Special teams will struggle this season and if they lose more than one game, it will certainly come down to their struggling special teams. All in all Bielema’s team should have another outstanding season and making it to their fifth January first bowl game in a row.
