In fairness to Brewster we predicted right here that they wouldn’t win a Big Ten game last season and he made us look good. He was completely out coached consistently all season. The Gophers and in my opinion the worst AD in the Big Ten (Maturi) knew that when they hired him so they have no excuse.
I get ripped for saying this, but still feel it. This job is a sleeping giant and with the new stadium coming when will football become a priority to the University and spend the money to get the right coach. The fans (that are left) in Minnesota are great folks and deserve better than this. If football got even a remote amount of love like hockey and finally basketball this school could do many great things especially with the new stadium.
Brewster by all accounts is a great person, but this isn’t a Sunday school teacher’s position. This is the Head Coach at a Big Ten school and he simply isn’t ready. A superb recruiter, but he got the job without ever being a coordinator. It was very evident. I am not saying he is doomed; I am saying he needs to go somewhere else and spare the Gophers from suffering through his learning curve.
I got flooded from emails of Gopher fans last year when a very respected website took my scouting report and prediction and, “Called me out!â€Â The point was that I don’t hate them, I simply told the truth. I was right. To their credit many wrote back and acknowledged it. This team I think will win 3 games although even that won’t be easy.Â
If they go through another season with no Big Ten wins then maybe the fans will not only get relief from Brewster, but also possibly even Maturi. He has bought himself time with the Tubby hire in basketball and maybe has learned a lesson with football and will actually go get himself someone who is ready. Many consider Bill Cubit at WMU the best non-BCS coach in the nation and would be a perfect fit in Minneapolis.
