Spartan Nation College Football Pre Season 2015 Top 25

Spartan Nation College Football Pre Season 2015 Top 25
1. Ohio State To be the man you have to beat them. Ton of talent and no one has beat them yet. Simply loaded, but as we saw last year, not unbeatable.
2. TCU Trevone Boykin is back at QB, solid D and host Baylor. OU in Norman toughest road game.
3. MSU Solid D with question at CB, but not lacking talent. RB concerns but not fear, especially if Delton Williams plays. True frosh LJ Scott is the real deal and should contribute immediately. WR the weakness where Kings and Burbridge have a flare for both great plays and inconsistency. If WR play excels MSU is in the title hunt. Best OL in the nation.
4. Oregon The loss of a QB hits a team hard when I pick, but Adams is good. Real good. A win in East Lansing propels them up the list, but MSU D is better and they wouldn’t have won over MSU in Oregon last year without Mariota.
5. Alabama A new QB hurts them in my book, but although I can’t stand OC Kiffin he is an offensive genius with weapons around his QB. Of course Saban equals a solid D. Nick has taken a first year starter and won a national title before and last year with that scenario made the Final Four.
6. Stanford OK if you already think I am crazy this won’t shock you, but if you didn’t before reading this you do now. I love the coaching staff, the talent and frankly a lot of reasons contributed to the fall off last season. The biggest road game is at USC and they own the Ducks two of the last three. I am a buyer on the young men from Stanford.
7. LSU Geaux Tigers. Speed, speed, speed and more speed and oh by the way did I say talent. Last year was an exception. True frosh QB last year got experience and biggest test is at BAMA. A win there and they get in the national title talk. I love this Tiger team.
8. USC They don’t have as many bodies as other teams with scholarship limits, but the bodies they have are very good. A very solid team, that still will have issues physically and I like Sarkisian, but not sold on him as an elite head man. The brutal schedule is the reason I don’t have them higher, but they have the nation’s most undervalued QB.
9. Auburn Gus has done a fantastic job fixing the Tigers and wasting no time doing it. The schedule is brutal, but an improved D could propel them to a national title playoff spot. At LSU and Arkansas are why I have them this low and home games against Alabama and UGA won’t be easy. I believe if they can get a win at LSU or Arkansas look out.
10. Baylor Great coach, lots of offensive talent, but they still have D issues despite the hype and no team will miss their QB in college football more than Baylor. A ton of talent back, but Petty was special.
11. Georgia If they weren’t traveling on November 14 to Auburn I would have them switched with the Tigers in this poll. They have great D, RB and OL so a new QB will be able to benefit from a running game. Should only lose two games and those are against Alabama and Auburn.
12. Arkansas If my Stanford pick didn’t convince you of my being nuts this will. I assure you that no one in the nation will show the Hogs the love I am. I can tell you that every NFL person I know and talked two before the draft and after has brought up what Bielema is doing in Arkansas. I have been told and I believe that no matter what anyone says, it was a conversation with former NEB head coach Bo Pelini that kept him from taking the Husker job, but I have to believe what he has built down there was a big factor as well.
13. Florida State Shouldn’t be this high, but a joke of schedule mandates it. Their record will say they should be here, but I guarantee better teams with worse records because of schedule will end up ranked lower.
14. Oklahoma Now that Mack Brown is out at Texas I can say that there isn’t many in college football who get less with more than Stoops. OU is a college football elite program that frankly with fan support, facilities and everything that surrounds it, should be getting more. Don’t get me wrong, 98% of programs in the nation would love what they’ve done. Those 98% aren’t OU. Same old story, plenty of talent to be great, but you and I both know somewhere you will just shake your head at a place they slip up. Stoops has his teams always close, but since the National Title, there is no question they have become comfortable. As if he still rests on having won a title 15 years ago. Today’s recruits don’t even remember that.
15. Notre Dame I really like this squad. They are a solid team on both sides of the ball. The only reason I don’t have them higher is simply schedule.
16. Wisconsin I like Coach Chryst, but they play Bama in Texas and Nebraska and Minnesota on the road. I peg them as a three loss team. Don’t get me wrong they are a good team, but those are three very difficult games. Watch out when they play Bama early. They are solid, could they catch the Crimson Tied sleeping?
17. Clemson Skill players are all over the place in Death Valley. They lost eight starters on D and don’t have a ton of depth that has experience. Those are the two reasons I don’t have them higher. They have plenty of talent in their depth, but when those youngsters get shots, they make first time playing mistakes.
18. Tennessee Some will say I have the VOLS this high because of my close personal friendship with Butch Jones. I assure you that is not the case. This team overachieved by making and winning a bowl game last year. Something I thought was for this season. This team has talent at every spot. Good talent and a lot of experience for a young team. A good schedule has to have Rocky Top asking why not us to make it to Atlanta?
19. Utah I love this team. In fact going back to the Urban Meyer days this might be the best Utah team of recent years including when he was in town. I think this team goes 9-3 and make no mistake they have solid players at every position. A couple of breaks and they could win the PAC 12.
20. UCLA If they weren’t going to use a true frosh QB I would have them in my top ten. I just can’t do it despite the fact they are loaded everywhere else. If the youngster can mature quick, look out because they have the talent everywhere else to win the PAC 12.
21. Virginia Tech Love the defense and I have no confidence in their QB. I think this is an 8-9 win team so I should have them higher, but here they sit.
22. Penn State They are ONLY here because their schedule is so easy. Franklin will once again in his career have inflated win totals because of an easy schedule. The reality is that once the great PSU fans start wanting more and the schedule gets better, Franklin’s coaching ability, not recruiting, coaching will be on display and we will then see how good of a X’s and O’s mind he is.
23. Missouri I love the coach, the program and the entire situation. I call out the fans. It is time for them to do their part. Great coaches want to win big and those fans need to make going to Mizzou a chore for opponents. Love the QB and the schedule is nice. Expect them higher than 23 when the season ends.
24. Minnesota This is going to be the best team Jerry Kill has put on the field. I love Coach Kill and everything about how he runs his program. I have them one step above the Huskers because they get to host them at home.
25. Nebraska Pelini could recruit. He struggled with game day coaching. In comes Mike Riley. A terrific coach who will have tools at Nebraska that Oregon State could have never dreamed about. Adjusting to a new coach will be difficult, but the Huskers will be better at the end of the year than early and that is a scary supposition. Riley was the perfect hire for the Huskers. Something you always knew that you got from Nebraska every year was solid coaching. That has NOT been the case in years. That is going to change. If this wasn’t year one of Riley I would have them higher. But there is a learning curve with every new coach. We all know Big Ten coaches could sit around and joke who would get a win over Big Red that they didn’t deserve thanks to Pelini and his staff. Players will make mistakes, but Riley won’t cost them games.
