Over the last nine months Hondo and I have discussed the "rebuilding" process under Coach Dantonio. We have seen the way "Coach D" and his staff have gone about recruiting Michigan and Detroit specifically. Look at the shear number of high quality kids in Ohio alone and you can see the new brick and mortar of Spartan football taking shape. Sure, Mark is going to lose some head to head battles with Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State, but the point is that he doesn't shy away from challenging those schools head to head. It was evident that JLS wouldn't even bump horns with our neighbors to the south and east. 

Spartan Nation, we are going to lose more of these battles than we win with the "Big 3" until the Dantonio system starts producing victories on the field. Remember, to do this correctly, we have to give Dantonio and his staff five years until a judgement is made. He isn't going to take short cuts recruiting. He isn't going to take shortcuts in the classroom... the weight room... in the public eye. This is a rebuilding process from the Nick Saban era. We are now going to put this Spartan train back on the rails from the last two regimes that just couldn't get it right. The example is being set. Dantonio doesn't care if you were penciled in at first string by the media on the WR depth chart. He will sacrifice talent on the field in the short term to create a long term sustainable product that we'll all be proud to call our own. 

Got to love the fact he'll take Michigan on head to head in the city of Detroit for recruits. We aren't going to win the short term battles, but he is setting us up beautifully to win the war. It is football season, the pads are popping the clipboards are being shuffled and new day has arrived for Spartan football. Mark Dantonio believes in expectations and you have to love a man willing to heap them on an unproven roster with little depth in some pretty key postions.  Dantonio says a bowl game is quite possible... I say it is lofty and aggressive. I like lofty and aggressive. I'll be happy with a Spartan team that competes every down and does the right thing on and off the field. A bowl game... well that would be something special.
