  • Big Props to Spartan Sherm Lewis. He is going to be added to the Redskins coaching staff as an offensive consultant.
  • As Michael Crabtree continues to make perhaps one of the biggest mistakes in NFL history, sitting out the season waiting for more money from the 49ers, the real issue is signing bonus. He knows that the salary from this year is wasted away so he is demanding more of the money as a signing bonus so as to not be punished for his ignorance. He now is trying to negotiate with a 49ers team that isn’t pleased or feeling excited to do such. One 49er told me this morning, “Don’t want him and don’t need him.” OUCH!
  • There is lots of love around the league for the Broncos. They played Brandon Marshall the right way and now he is a happy camper. Said one league source, “Nice to see that when you actually play tough, it works.” It is refreshing in a league where even the Broncos months before gave in to Cutler.
  • JaMarcus Russell is growing day-by-day less relevant in Oakland. His on the field play is only made worse by his even uglier off the field issues. Why others question whether or not the millions he was given in guarantees made him simply lazy, his teammates are ready for a change. One of them was adamant that, “We need to go get Jeff (Garcia) and stop the bleeding.”
  • Jim Zorn needs to put his house on the market right now. NO ONE thinks he will be back next season as his loss to the Lions, “Sealed the deal.”
  • Jim Schwartz isn’t as popular with some of his Lions as he once was. Who really cares as long as he wins? Coaches don’t have to be popular to win, but if he can change the culture all will be well. He is coming after a very popular coach that didn’t win. Players weren’t happy to lose on Sunday, but they were happy for Marinelli.
  • Raiders Coach Tom Cable sure isn’t out of the clear. One NFL teams player rep told me earlier today, “There is NO WAY that he gets away with this the way the league has come down on players. Not a chance.”
  • Former Spartan and current Cowboy OT Flozell Adams has been fined three times so far this season. The league has informed him that there better not be any more or he will have to make a trip to the league office in New York and possibly face a suspension.
  • As I have stated before Mike Shanahan will be the next coach in Dallas. So with my above mention that Jim Zorn is done, who will follow him in Washington?  Mike Holmgren.
  • Here is an interesting note from an AFC team person. “John Fox better get going or he is done in Carolina. They will opne the checkbook for Cowher and he will get total control.”
