Michigan State added their eleventh commitment to the 2010 recruiting class for football today, and he comes from familiar territory. Welcome Marcus Rush from Cincinnati (OH) Moeller.

Rush is a very versatile DE with good moves and speed. “I really was excited to see the staff and how close they all were. It felt right for me,” was Rush’s comments moments ago. “I was there recently and spent two hours with Coach Narduzzi talking football and meeting players. I knew that was the place for me.”

Rush is the third DE to commit to MSU for this class. He is also an exceptional student with nearly a 3.5 grade point average. “MSU has a really good business school and that is what I plan to major in,” was Rush’s description of his educational endeavors.

Rush has an explosive first step and it is virtually unstoppable at the point of attack. That step and his ability to create separation from lineman surely caught the Spartans’ eye. He is extremely fast and athletic and that athleticism will be a great addition to the Spartans.

Some have speculated that Rush may play outside LB, a theory he shot down today. “Nope, they wanted me at defensive end.” Once again the open commitment to faith from the staff helped the Spartans. “I do go to church every Sunday and last year my dad and I were both impressed that they took time at the middle of the field after games to pray. I was glad to see that was important to them, and that they didn’t just say it.”

Rush had other offers, most notably from Michigan, but spoke candidly about his decision to join the Spartan Nation. “I went to Michigan four times. I met the defensive coordinator, defensive line and linebacker coaches, but never even really spoke to them. At Michigan State the first time I met Coach Gill I spent an hour with him talking strategy and how they would use me. I just felt MSU was a lot more personable and that I had built a relationship with them. I really liked how the MSU coaches all seemed so close both with each other and with the players.”

Rush is a great addition to an already talented 2010 class. The Spartans had to address the DL with this group and certainly have.

Rush is an exceptional young man who is very talented. Spartan Nation welcomes him and looks forward to more commitments very soon.
