Elijah Hawkins' status uncertain for Gophers-Wisconsin game

Point guard missed last Thursday's game at Michigan State with an ankle sprain.

Elijah Hawkins’ status is uncertain for the Gophers men’s basketball team’s home game on Tuesday against No. 13 Wisconsin.

Hawkins missed Thursday’s game at Michigan State after spraining his ankle just before halftime in last Monday’s loss to Iowa. Gophers coach Ben Johnson said that Hawkins was limited in practice on Sunday and that they’ll make a determination based on how he looks and feels in practice on Monday.

Hawkins averages 8.1 points and 7.8 assists per game for the Gophers this season. His 7.8 assists per game lead the nation, and even after missing Thursday’s game in East Lansing, Mich., Hawkins still ranks fourth in the nation overall in assists (132).

Whether or not Hawkins can go will be significant for a Minnesota team looking to end its three-game skid, and against its arch-rival in Wisconsin, which currently sits atop the Big Ten Conference standings.
