Gophers' Grace Grocholski named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

She shot the lights out in a loss to Rutgers and a win over Northwestern.

Gophers women’s basketball’s Grace Grocholski was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday after shooting the lights out in a loss to Rutgers and a win over Northwestern last week.

Grocholski knocked down a career-high seven 3-pointers during a Feb. 13 loss to Rutgers, scoring 23 points on 8-for-13 shooting to keep the U within reach throughout the contest. She followed up that performance with a career-high 27 points on 10-for-13 shooting in a win Saturday against Northwestern.

It’s Grocholski’s third weekly honor of the season. She leads Big Ten freshmen in scoring at 11.7 points per game, and her 11.9 points per game in Big Ten play make her one of two conference underclassmen averaging at least that many per contest.

She also averages 4.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists.

Grocholski’s efforts in the win over Northwestern helped the U snap a six-game skid.

The Gophers return to action on Tuesday for a border battle matchup against Wisconsin. Tipoff at Williams Arena is set for 6 p.m.
