Mara Braun ties it, Amaya Battle wins it for Gophers against Purdue

Mara Braun led Minnesota with 21 points, including the game-tying shot with 13 seconds left.

Amaya Battle's steal and free throws with 3 seconds remaining gave the Minnesota women's basketball team a 60-58 win in their Big Ten opener against Purdue Sunday at Williams Arena.

Tied at 58-58, the Boilermakers had the ball and a chance to hold for the last shot but a cross-court pass was intercepted by Battle, who was then immediately fouled. She swished both free throws and Purdue turned the ball over on a full-court pass to give the Gophers the win.

Braun's turnaround jumper with 13 seconds to go tied the game at 58-58.

Minnesota is 9-1 overall and 1-0 in the Big Ten.

The Gophers led 25-18 in a low-scoring first half but then found themselves trailing by five after Purdue outscored them 25-13 in the third quarter.

Mara Braun led Minnesota with 21 points on 8-of-18 shooting, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range. Battle scored 15 points and Sophie Hart added 14.
