Wisconsin drops Gophers for season sweep in women's hoops

Serah Williams destroyed the Gophers for a second time

Momentum from Saturday's 25-point win over Northwestern didn't carry over to Tuesday night as the Minnesota women's basketball team fell at home 67-56 to Wisconsin.

The difference was a dreadful second quarter that saw the Badgers outscore the Gophers 24-12. Take away those ugly 10. minutes and Minnesota outscored Wisconsin 44-43 the other three quarters.

Just as she did in the first meeting between the border rivals, Wisconsin's Serah Williams was an unstoppable force. She dominated Minnesota with 30 points and 15 rebounds.

Williams had 24 points and 15 rebounds in Wisconsin's 59-56 win over the Gophers back on Jan. 23. The sophomore has 12 straight double-doubles.

Williams made 11-of-14 shots for the Badgers while the rest of the team converted on just 11 of 39 attempts (28.2%).

Minnesota shot 40.8% as a team and was led by Amaya Battle's 16 points.

Freshman Grace Grocholski, fresh off her Big Ten Freshman of the Week award that was fueled by a 27-point game against Northwestern, was held to eight points on 3-of-4 shooting.

Up next: Gophers at Nebraska, Saturday at 4 p.m. CT.
