Former Gophers quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis said on social media Tuesday that he has committed to Rutgers where he’ll reunite with his former offensive coordinator, Kirk Ciarrocca.

Kaliakmanis entered the transfer portal just days after the Gophers’ regular season ended with a loss to Wisconsin on Nov. 25. He previously visited Rutgers in mid-December. Ciarrocca, the Gophers’ offensive coordinator from 2017-19 and 2021-22 who coached Kaliakmanis in 2022, is the Scarlet Knights’ offensive coordinator. It’s his second stint at Rutgers. Kaliakmanis has two years of eligibility remaining.

Kaliakmanis struggled in 2023, completing just 53.1% of his passes for 1,838 yards, 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He was the backup quarterback in Ciarrocca’s offense in 2022, but played in 11 games and started five after starter Tanner Morgan missed time due to injury. Kaliakmanis completed 54.1% of his passes for 946 yards, three touchdowns and four picks during the 2022 campaign.

Also transferring from Minnesota to Rutgers is Kaliakmanis’ brother, Dino, a wide receiver. Dino, a redshirt sophomore in 2023, saw little action in three years at the U. He was redshirted in 2021, played in just four games in 2022 and just one in 2023. He also has two years of eligibility remaining.
