Report suggests Koi Perich won't flip commitment from Minnesota

"Sounds like Top247 safety Koi Perich will stick with his commitment to Minnesota."

Nervous Gophers fans may be breathing a little easier Monday after a report that top safety recruit Koi Perich could stick with his commitment to Minnesota.

Perich, the top recruit in Minnesota and a top-100 recruit nationally, visited Ohio State earlier in December, throwing into question his previous commitment to the Gophers. Steve Wiltfong, director of recruiting for 247Sports, reported Monday that Perich isn't going to flip.

"Sounds like Top247 safety Koi Perich will stick with his commitment to Minnesota," Wiltfong wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

On top of being the No. 1 recruit in Minnesota, Perich is the eighth-ranked safety in the entire 2024 class, according to 247Sports. The standout from Esko High School in northern Minnesota has been quiet about his recruitment but has stated he will announce his decision Wednesday, which happens to be National Signing Day.

Gophers head coach P.J. Fleck has watch two high school commits back out and go elsewhere in the past week. Prior Lake defensive lineman Jide Abasiri flipped to USC and Gaylord, Mich., linebacker Brady Pretzlaff backed out of his commitment after a visit to Michigan State.

Pretzlaff will announce his decision on Wednesday as well.
