Gophers sweep Robert Morris, improve to 4-1 since holiday break

Jimmy Snuggerud stayed red-hot for Minnesota.

The Golden Gophers men's hockey team completed a sweep of Robert Morris with a 4-1 victory Saturday afternoon at 3M Arena at Mariucci in Minneapolis.

Connor Kurth earned the first star of the game with three assists, one each on goals scored by Mason Nevers, Mike Koster and Aaron Huglen.

The only Gophers goal Kurth didn't assist on was Jimmy Snuggerud's NCAA-leading 17th of the season. Snuggerud, a 2022 first-round pick of the St. Louis Blues, has 17 goals in 22 games after scoring 21 goals in 40 games as a true freshman last season.

Snuggerud has been a bit of a streaky goal-scorer. He had five goals in the first three games of the season way back in October and then scored just three goals over his next 12 games. And he's once again on fire with nine goals in his last seven games.

Oliver Moore had two assists for Minnesota. It's also worth noting that Snuggerud had nine shot in the game.

The Gophers are 4-1, including their exhibition win over the U.S. National Under-18 Team, since returning from the holiday break.

Up next: The #12 Gophers host Ohio State Jan. 19-20.
