Former Bulldog defensive lineman Chris Jones is set to become a free agent this offseason, and his asking price might create some concern with the Kansas City front office.

Jones continues to earn accolades. He's now a three-time Super Bowl Champion after the Kansas City Chiefs won in overtime against the San Francisco 49ers, 25-22, on Sunday night.

However, Jones is set to become a free agent this offseason at the start of the new league year on March 13, and his potential new contract might create some discontent with the Chiefs.

For the Chiefs, Jones has been one of the biggest forces on their defense, posting a combined 84 tackles and 28.5 sacks over the past two years across the regular and post season.

His contract situation has been a point of contention with the Chiefs, which resulted in him sitting out their home opener against the Detroit Lions. Compared to other NFL defensive linemen, Nick Bosa and Aaron Donald are making well over $30 million a year, and Jones is likely seeking a contract around that range, and quiet possibly even higher.

The Chiefs could potentially franchise tag him this offseason, as their cap situation isn't too bad, having roughly $24 million in cap space. However, this is a situation that teams and organizations will monitor heading into the offseason.

Drafted out of Mississippi State back in 2016, Jones has earned five Pro Bowl selections and two first team All Pro selection. He was also a finalist for NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2022.

It will be interesting to see how his free agency situation plays out, wether the Chiefs can sign him to a long term deal, or if we will potentially see him on another team next season.
