Just A Bulldog Minute: What To Expect From Jeff Lebby

Your daily news keeping you up to date on all things Mississippi State.

After the announcement of the newest Mississippi State Bulldogs head coach Jeff Lebby, questions quickly followed. Here's what everyone wants to know: What doe he have planned for the team?

Now that the regular season is over, the timing of Lebby's arrival is a great way to factor him in with a head start on 2024. First of all, now that the veteran players are looking for life after Mississippi State, Lebby needs to take in a new recruiting class.

Thankfully, the Bulldogs just welcomed a junior-college  commitment, running back Johnnie Daniels. Lebby is also expected to keep an eye on athlete Daniel Hill, offensive tackle Jimothy Lewis, and Wide Reciever JJ Herril.

Another thing to watch out for is how he will put together his coaching staff. Lebby has already announced that he is expected to retain defensive line coach David Turner. Lebby has already committed to keeping wide receiver coach Chad Bumphis in staff.

Aside from the staff, there will be multiple spots open on the roster for taking since numerous players are entering the transfer portal and graduating, however this is obviously not unusual for a college team.

The biggest challenge Lebby will face is taking charge of the team as a whole, which extends well beyond the players. In the past, Lebby has served in team leadership as the offensive coordinator for the Ole Miss Rebels and the Oklahoma State Sooners.

With this in mind, a change in offense may be exactly what Mississippi State needs to improve from the performance of the 2023 season. Only time will tell what Lebby has in store as a new version of the Bulldogs moves forward.
