Kansas City Chiefs star and former Mississippi State Bulldog Chris Jones is coming off one of the best seasons in his eight year career.

The Houston, Mississippi native recorded over ten sacks for the third time in his eight year career and helped lead Kansas City to its third Super Bowl victory since his arrival in 2016.

Though many expected the pair to get an extension done this offseason, Jones and the Chiefs have yet to reach an agreement.

The five-time Pro Bowler is set to become a free agent next week on March 11 and will be able to sign with any team he chooses. While he has been extremely successful in his time in Kansas City, this is not the first time Jones and Chiefs ownership have been at odds regarding contract negotiations.

Jones signed a four-year extension in 2020 worth eighty million dollars, but held out ahead of 2023 in search of a more valuable deal to match his level of production.

Though the pair eventually came to an agreement that increased the value of Jones' contract through incentives, he is still looking for a more lucrative agreement.

As of now, according to OverTheCap.com, the Chiefs have just over three million dollars in cap space, so the organization will need to be creative with its money if it hopes to retain one of the NFL's top defenders.
