Missouri Baseball Drops Final Game of Home stand to SIUE

The Tigers conclude their six-game home stand with a record of 5-1 after a loss to the Cougars.

The Tigers broke their win-streak with a 5-4 loss to Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville.

Missouri got the first run across the plate with the help of a double down the left field line from senior second baseman Matt Garcia. A single from freshman shortstop A sacrifice fly brought him home to give the Tigers the first lead of the game.

Sophomore starter Daniel Wissler couldn’t keep men off the base, but he did keep them from coming home — at least for the first five innings. SIUE was able to put up three runs on Missouri in the fifth inning with three singles.

SIUE continued to take advantage of the Tigers pitching after they went to the bullpen for junior reliever Victor Quinn. Quinn gave up a run to make the deficit three.

The Tigers began to mount a comeback in the bottom of the sixth. They eliminated the deficit to make it a tie game. But the tie didn’t last long and Missouri handed the lead back over in the top of the seventh.

Despite their best efforts in the late innings, the Tigers were not able to come back for the win.

The Tigers’ drop to 15-19 on the season, while the SIUE improves to 12-21. Missouri heads to Athens to play Georgia for their weekend series with their first game on Friday, April 12 at 6 p.m.
