Mizzou Minute: Main Takeaways from Spring Football Practices

Two things we learned from the Missouri Tigers spring football practices.

The Missouri Tigers wrapped up spring camp Saturday with the Black & Gold game at Faurot Field.

MizzouCentral's Joey Van Zummeren was there for the game and the final two weeks of practices. In the video above, he gives his two main thoughts on the team heading into the offseason.

In the fall, the Tigers will look to build off of their success they had in 2023 where they finished 10-2, their best record since 2014, and won the Cotton Bowl over the Ohio State Buckeyes. Missouri will be losing many leaders this year to the NFL Draft including SEC leading rusher Cody Schrader and defensive end Darius Robinson.

In spring practices, it seems like there's little concern of the team becoming complacent as they're only looking to improve. Last week, the Tigers received their rings for the Cotton Bowl win in December. Coach Eli Drinkwitz channeled Tom Brady and told his team that the Cotton Bowl ring is not his favorite ring. It's the next one.

In 2023, the team motto was "Something To Prove." It began as motivation to prove doubters wrong as Missouri was predicted to finish near the bottom of the SEC. But i turned into a desire to prove themselves right for believing in theirselves.

In 2024, all of the Tigers' motivation will have to be internal as they are no longer underdogs. The chip on their shoulder will have to come from wanting to prove doubters who think the 2023 season was just a fluke.

The Tigers season will begin Saturday, Aug. 31 when they host Murray State.
