Wolfpack College Summer Baseball Update

Austin Murr started all 17 games the NC State baseball team played in 2020 before the season was shut down because of the coronavirus pandemic.
He's played the position for most of his time with the LaCrosse Loggers of the summer wood bat Northwest League. But the junior slugger has also been expanding his horizons a bit.
In addition to seeing some action as a designated hitter, Murr has also spent some time in left field. He played there Sunday in the Loggers' 8-3 loss to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters.
Apparently he's still learning his way around in the outfield. He was charged with an error in Sunday's game, only his second in 16 games and 96 total defensive chances since the abbreviated season started earlier this month.
Murr also went hitless at the plate for only the third time this summer. But his average didn't take much of a hit since he only had one official at bat. It's still at .310 after a night in which he also walked twice and stole a base.
DeAngelo Giles of the High Point-Thomasville HiToms also had a relatively quiet Sunday, although he did get into his Coastal Plain League team's 21-0 rout of the Statesville Owls as a mid-inning replacement at third base.
Giles batted twice, flying out to center before walking and scoring a run before the game was stopped after seven innings.
The third Wolfpack player in summer league action, Jose Torres, also played Sunday -- although his game with the Amarillo Sod Squad of the Texas Collegiate League didn't count in the standings.
Playing in an exhibition game against the Texas Stix, an 18-under team that was called in as a last minute replacement when the Sod Squad's scheduled three-game series against the Frisco Roughriders was canceled, the freshman shortstop banged out two more hits and another RBI -- giving him 14 in 13 games (11 RBI in 10 official games) overall this summer.
Torres and the Sod Squad will get back to league action against the other Amarillo team, the Sod Dogs, this week.
