Nebraska basketball has put another player in the NBA.

One-and-done phenom Bryce McGowens was selected at No. 40 of the 2022 NBA Draft on Thursday night by the Minnesota Timberwolves. That is the 10th pick of the second round.

Though McGowens was officially drafted by Minnesota, ESPN Senior NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski reports the pick is expected to be traded to the Charlotte Hornets.

McGowens gives the Huskers back-to-back seasons with drafted players for the first time Tyronn Lue and Venson Hamilton were taken in 1998 and 1999, respectively. Lue is the last Husker to be taken in the first round, No. 23 overall by the Denver Nuggets.

The Toronto Raptors took Dalano Banton in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft.

McGowens arrived in Lincoln as a five-star prospect, the highest ranking for a Nebraska recruit since the current rating systems began.

In his lone season under coach Fred Hoiberg, McGowens was a third-team All-Big Ten selection while averaging 16.8 points and 5.1 rebounds a game. He was named the Big Ten Newcomer of the Year by the Associated Press.
