Nebraska men's basketball won their exhibition against Doane, but unfortunately for the Huskers, that is not the most important story from Sunday night.

With 7:27 left in the first half, star shooting guard Keisei Tominaga went down with an ankle injury.

While on the fast break, Tominaga collided with a Doane defender and was motionless on the floor. An injury timeout was called, and Tominaga gingerly made his way off the court and into the locker room.

The Japanese shooting guard was later seen walking around on the sideline and in team huddles but did not re-enter the game.

“We’ll know a lot more in the morning with Keisei,” Nebraska head coach Fred Hoiberg said after the game. “The ankle did swell up after he twisted it… hopefully, he’ll recover quickly from it; he’s obviously a very important part of what we do.”

Despite the gloom of the star guard’s injury, there were many bright spots from the exhibition.

True freshman Eli Rice shined, leading all scorers with 18 points and knocking down two threes. The 6’8 freshman from IMG Academy used his size and athleticism all over the court to lead a shorthanded Husker squad to a dominant victory.

Rice wasn’t the only new Husker to shine at Pinnacle Bank Arena

Ball State transfer Jarron “Boogie” Coleman was dominant in the paint. Bullying smaller Doane guards under the basket, Coleman scored 12 points and grabbed four rebounds

Overall, it was a great offensive performance for the Big Red. Five players,—Rice, Coleman, Sam Hoiberg, Brice Williams, and CJ Wilcher—scored double-digit points, and the team overall shot over 53-percent from the field.

The Huskers hope to get healthy and transfer this offensive performance to their first regular season matchup of the year against Lindenwood on Nov. 6.
