Just hours after Nebraska football coach Scott Frost was given a vote of confidence from NU athletic director Trev Alberts, Frost announced the firing of four assistants.

The relieved coaches are offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Matt Lubick, offensive line coach/run game coordinator Greg Austin, running backs coach Ryan Held, and quarterbacks coach Mario Verduzco.

“I appreciate the work and sacrifices these men have made for the University of Nebraska and this football program and wish all of them well,” Frost said. “They are all men of outstanding character and good coaches, but as we strive for better consistency and execution, we needed fresh ideas and voices on our offensive staff.”

Lubick coached with Frost at Oregon and joined him in Lincoln in 2020. Held, Austin and Verduzco followed Frost from Central Florida in 2018.

The removal of the four is effective immediately. Only tight ends coach Sean Beckton remains as an offensive assistant.

Nebraska is off this week before closing the season with Wisconsin and Iowa.
