The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled an officially licensed, limited-edition bobblehead commemorating the record-setting Volleyball Day in Nebraska that took place on August 30, 2023, at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska. The bobblehead features University of Nebraska mascot Herbie Husker holding a volleyball while standing on a volleyball court inside a replica of Memorial Stadium. The special edition bobblehead is being produced exclusively by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, an official licensee of the University of Nebraska.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers Volleyball team faced off against Omaha as part of Volleyball Day in Nebraska in front of 92,003 fans, which set a world record for attendance at a women's sporting event. The event began with an exhibition match between in-state Division II powers Nebraska-Kearney and Wayne State. The Cornhuskers are currently ranked #2 in the nation with an undefeated 11-0 record. The previous record of 91,648 was set during a Champions League soccer match when Barcelona defeated Real Madrid, 5-2, at Camp Nou Stadium in 2022.

Holding a volleyball and standing inside a replica of Memorial Stadium, the smiling Herbie Husker bobblehead is holding a Nebraska volleyball and wearing his trademark denim overalls and red cowboy hat, which both feature the Nebraska logo. The stadium base includes the date, the record-breaking attendance total, and “World Record Attendance for Women’s Sporting Event”. Each bobblehead is individually numbered to 2,023 and they are only available through the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum’s Online Store. The bobbleheads, which are expected to ship in January, are $40 each plus a flat-rate shipping charge of $8 per order.

On Volleyball Day in Nebraska on Wednesday, August 30th, Nebraska swept Omaha, 25-14, 25-14, 25-13, but it was Husker Nation who stole the show as the largest crowd in the 100-year history of Memorial Stadium took in the action. Nebraska’s fight song begins, “There is no place like Nebraska” and those words rang true on a day of celebration of a sport that enjoys immense popularity in the state. “We took a chance by playing in Memorial Stadium, and to go for the record and break it. … I don’t think anybody could have envisioned that when this whole thing started,” Nebraska coach John Cook said.

The event began with an exhibition match between in-state Division II powers Nebraska-Kearney and Wayne State and was followed by the Huskers’ three-set sweep in a regular-season, non-conference match. Country artist Scotty McCreery performed afterward. Memorial Stadium’s official capacity is just over 85,000 for football, but that number was higher for the volleyball event because there were seats and standing room on the field. Nebraska, which has sold out more than 300 matches in a row at the Devaney Center, has won five national titles and its program is one of the few in Division I women’s sports that turns a profit. There are currently 7,000 girls playing at the high school level in the volleyball-crazed state. Nebraska also boasts 75 women who are on NCAA Division I volleyball rosters this season.

"We are excited to release this very special bobblehead in celebration of the Cornhuskers’ world-record attendance on Volleyball Day in Nebraska at Memorial Stadium,” National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum co-founder and CEO Phil Sklar said. “People of Nebraska who love their volleyball are sure to love this bobblehead!”
