Athleticism is certainly not lacking for 2022 four-star defensive line prospect Alex VanSumeren, and this is something that projects a bright future for the potential Northwestern Wildcat.

The Essexville, Michigan native is 6'3" and weighs 300 pounds. He is the 176th ranked prospect in the country, the 12th ranked defensive lineman and also the 4th ranked player in the state of Michigan. All of this certainly passes the eye test for an impact collegiate player, but based off of his highlights, size may not even be a top attribute.

In the previous video, which captures an Elite Tackling Systems training session, VanSumeren portrays many desirable attributes. He displays near perfect tackling form, ability to blow through potential blockers as well as evading them, and finally a strong sense of spatial awareness that shows off his elite football IQ.

In his junior season, VanSumeren played on both sides of the ball. However, he especially excelled on defense, accumulating 63 total tackles across nine games, adding to his total of 237 across 28 games for his entire career.

VanSumeren currently has 21 offers in front of him, with Michigan State, Northwestern, Penn State, Texas A&M and Clemson being his top-five choices. The prospect visited Evanston on June 18th after being offered a scholarship on April 22nd.

It's also notable that VanSumeren was committed to Michigan until February 12th when he rescinded his commitment to the University. While his reason for the decision is not known, his older brother, Ben VanSumeren, recently transferred from Michigan to rival Michigan State.

While VanSumeren has not indicated where he plans to sign, Evanston does seem to be a possible landing spot.
