Smith led Oak Mountain to a 7-5 record and helped the Eagles record their best season start (4-0) in program history. To wrap up the 2020 season, Smith was named to the Class 7A All-State second-team.
Not only is Smith a star on the gridiron, but also led the Eagles' state champion basketball team as the starting point guard. Smith averaged 8.2 points and four assists per game with 50 steals on the season his junior year.

Smith has received more than a dozen offers, including Northwestern, Navy, Army, Duke, and more. The majority of his offers have Smith playing at wide receiver while a couple have him projected as a quarterback.
However, at his visit to Northwestern in early June, the athlete was thrown into yet another position—cornerback. Despite never playing the position before his workout at NU, Smith's sheer athleticism and skill earned him a scholarship to the Big Ten program.
