Meechie Johnson Stays Home
Johnson, a 6-3, 160 pound guard from Garfield Heights (Cleveland, OH) was on an unofficial visit at Ohio State and recorded his announcement video right outside of the Jerome Schottenstein Center. Although Johnson has visited the Buckeyes many times before, the idea of Johnson committing in Columbus makes things so much sweeter.
Johnson busted the scene as a freshman when he scored 50 points in just his third game of his high school career. From that point on, Meechie Johnson is seen by many as the top Ohio prospect in the 2021 class.
Ohio State is already home to Meechie's former teammate, Alonzo Gaffney. Zo played alongside Meechie during his junior year before transferring over to Brewster Academy that had a magnitude of division 1 talent. However, they have the potential to team up once more if Zo does not leave school early to pursue his NBA dreams.
Johnson is not the only Ohio 2021 recruit to verbally commit to the Buckeyes. He joins Kalen Etzler (6-8, 195) who verbally committed to the Buckeyes as soon as he got the call from Holtmann that Ohio State officially offered him a scholarship on May 12th.
Meechie Johnson's commitment gives the Buckeyes the highest rated class in the country.
