Ohio State Buckeyes Coach Chris Holtmann Gives Update on Injuries to Roddy Gayle Jr., Scotty Middleton

Coach Holtmann told reporters that Roddy Gayle Jr. and Scotty Middleton are "day-to-day," and Taison Chatman's progress is "encouraging."

Ohio State Buckeyes coach Chris Holtmann updated reporters on the status of three of his players during a press conference on Wednesday.

Buckeyes guards Roddy Gayle Jr., Scotty Middleton and Taison Chatman are all recovering from injuries sustained at various times during this year.

Holtmann said the trio of players are all questionable for Saturday's game against the UCLA Bruins as part of the CBS Classic in Atlanta, Georgia. Gayle and Middleton are both considered close to returning to the floor following ailments sustained last contest against Penn State, while Chatman is almost over an injury from the preseason.

"Roddy and Scotty are making progress," Holtmann said. "So we'll see. They're kind of being evaluated day to day, but they're making good progress. So it's encouraging for Saturday. Taison has been out with an injury not related to his knee; his knee is healthy. So, he's certainly questionable going into Saturday."

Gayle has been an important part of Ohio State's success through the first ten games. Averaging just over 30 minutes of playing time each game, the sophomore is second on the team in points with 14.3 along with five rebounds, which is the most among Buckeyes guards.

Chatman saw his first action of the season during Ohio State's upset of then-No. 17 Alabama during the Emerald Coast Classic. The Buckeyes would defeat Santa Clara in the final the following day to secure their first, multi-team title in over a decade.

Ohio State is back in action this Saturday, December 16 against the UCLA Bruins for the CBS Sports Classic. The contest between the Buckeyes and Bruins will tip-off at 3 p.m. eastern on CBS from the State Farm Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
