"I'm Back": Ohio State DT Ty Hamilton Announces Return for 2024 Season

Defensive tackle Ty Hamilton cited "some unfinished business" as his motive for returning to Ohio State, a theme that has been popular among other returning Buckeyes.

The Ohio State Buckeyes have retained an important piece of their defense amidst a flurry of transfers and draft declarations.

Buckeyes defensive tackle Ty Hamilton announced he was returning to the Scarlet and Gray for the coming season, electing to forgo the 2024 NFL Draft.

In a statement he posted to social media, Hamilton referenced there was still "unfinished business" to be resolved before he departed from Columbus. The need to end on the right note has been a theme for several of Ohio State's returning players, including defensive end Jack Sawyer, linebacker Cody Simon and safety Lathan Ransom.

"First of all, I would like to thank God for the opportunity and blessing it is to be here at The Ohio State," Hamilton said. "I want to thank my family and my coaches for helping along the way in this journey, but I think there is still some unfinished business that needs to be taken care of for the brotherhood. With that being said, I will be returning for another year. Go Bucks!"

Hamilton recorded 38 tackles and two sacks over the 2023 season, seeing action in 11 of Ohio State's 13 games. The Pickerington, Ohio native has been with the Buckeyes since 2021, bringing down a total of 65 opposing players along with 4.5 sacks.

The announcement of Hamilton's return is welcomed news for the Buckeyes and defensive coordinator Jim Knowles. Several starters have either departed from Ohio State (like defensive tackle Mike Hall, Jr.) or are still mulling if they will come back (such as cornerback Denzel Burke).

Perhaps the return of Hamilton will convince some other Buckeyes to stay as well.
