The hype surrounding Ohio State Buckeyes freshman wideout Jeremiah Smith is real.

After becoming the first Ohio State freshman ever to lose his black stripe after just four spring outings, Smith brought the practice to a halt after a crazy one-handed catch on Saturday.

Smith was in man coverage backpedaling to the left corner of the end zone when he was forced to make a one-handed grab falling down backward with the defender draped all over him.

Smith is a true freshman but his skills and talent are already on display as he is already drawing comparisons to fellow receivers Emeka Egbuka, Carnell Tate and Brandon Inniss.

Smith's teammates are familiar with his abilities, as back in early March, they spoke very highly of the incoming freshman.

“Freak. Freak athlete," Egbuka said. "There’s nothing he can’t do. He runs fast. He jumps high. He’s strong. He’s a natural pass-catcher. I mean, yeah, he’s a freak... He’s very coachable. He’s always willing to listen. He always puts his best foot forward every single day. He hates to lose. He’s a competitor, which is huge, especially in Zone 6. I think he has a bright future here.”

Suffice it to say, Smith is off to a very good start in Columbus and is expected to have a major role with the offense this coming fall.

Will the high expectations for the star freshman only continue to increase from here? Absolutely, but based on what we have seen so far in spring camp, those expectations are warranted.
