'You Can Feel It, You Can Taste It!' Buckeyes Coach Ryan Day Feels Pressure to Beat Michigan

Day and the Buckeyes have not defeated the Wolverines since the 2019 season, and have lost two in a row. TTUN holds the overall series edge at 60-51-6.

For all the success Ryan Day has found in Columbus since 2018, he might trade some of it for a just a couple of more wins. Specifically against the hated rival, TTUN.

Day and the Buckeyes have not defeated the Wolverines since the 2019 season, and have lost two in a row. TTUN holds the overall series edge at 60-51-6.

Prior to the 42-27 loss in Ann Arbor in 2021 (there was no game in 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic), the Buckeyes had won eight in a row dating back to 2012.

And Day knows the expectations as the head coach of Ohio State.

"You can't lose a game," Day told ESPN. "The expectation here every year is the same,” said Day, who is now 1-3 in CFP semifinals.

"Win the rivalry game, win the Big Ten and win the national championship. We fight like heck to do that and we’re right there. "

Day knows the pressures of beating TTUN and realizes it's different from other rivalries he's experienced.

"You can feel it, you can taste it, and that’s motivated the guys this offseason. When you get that close and you don’t get there, you didn’t get it done. And it certainly does motivate.”

Day's task for 2023 isn't an easy one, with the Wolverines expected to contend for a national championship. Ohio State travels to Ann Arbor on Nov. 25, where both teams should be undefeated entering the contest. Kickoff is 11 a.m. CT, and Day better have his team prepared.
