Ohio State men's hockey is well represented across the National Hockey League (NHL) as team development camps begin.

Both Buckeyes past and present span four teams in three different NHL divisions, ranging from the distant Vancouver Canucks to the close-to-home Columbus Blue Jackets.

Former Ohio State defenseman Cole McWard returns to the Canucks after signing a two-year contract with the team following the end of his sophomore season. The Fenton, Missouri-native scored two points (one goal and one assist) with the club over five games in April.

McWard will be joined in Vancouver by his former teammate Joe Dunlap, who is preparing for his senior season with the Buckeyes. The forward from Windham, New Hampshire scored a career-high 13 goals last year (the third-most on the team) while skating in all 40 games of his junior campaign.

Mason Lohrei, another former Buckeyes defenseman like McWard, spent the 2022-23 preseason with the Boston Bruins. The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Lohrei recorded a 0-1-1 line with a -3 rating in five games before returning to the Buckeyes for his second collegiate year.

A towering 6-foot-4 off the ice, Bruins coaches will no doubt be watching Lohrei's maneuverability and footwork throughout his time at camp.

New faces to the Buckeyes are also attending NHL development camps. Defensemen Brent Johnson and Nathan McBrayer are preluding their debut college seasons in the NHL's Metropolitan division with the Washington Capitals and Blue Jackets, respectively.
