Ohio Stadium Named Sportsnaut's Best Stadium in College Football

Also known as "The Horseshoe," Ohio Stadium is home to Ohio State Buckeyes football and was the former venue of men's and women's lacrosse.

Ohio Stadium, the football home of the Ohio State Buckeyes, was recently named the best stadium in college football by Sportsnaut.

Nicknamed "The Horseshoe" by fans after its original shape back in 1922, Ohio Stadium has played home to numerous memorable games for Buckeyes football and otherwise.

In 2022, Ohio State lacrosse defeated archrival Michigan twice in six days, once to close out the regular season and the other to open the Big Ten Tournament. The Buckeyes outscored the Wolverines 00-00 over the pair of games, and senior attacker Jackson Reid had ten total goals.

The postseason would end shortly after that, as the Scarlet and Gray fell first to Rutgers in the Big Ten Semifinals, and then Cornell in the NCAA Tournament's opening round.

Perhaps the most unforgettable game played in Ohio Stadium, however, was No. 2 Ohio State football's 50-14 victory over No. 4 Michigan on November 23, 1968.

The Buckeyes turned a seven-point lead at halftime into a 36-point triumph by scoring 29 unanswered points in the final half of play. The dominance in the third and fourth quarters was largely due to the impressive rushing of running back Jim Otis, who scored four touchdowns in the game.

After the game, Ohio State head coach Woody Hayes called the win, "the best victory we ever had."

The Buckeyes would go on to win the national championship later that season.
