Ex-Ohio State QB Justin Fields Nominated For FedEx Air Player of the Week

Chicago Bears quarterback and former Ohio State Buckeye Justin Fields had another career day this past weekend, finishing with some big numbers in the Bears' win.

The start of the 2023 season was about as rough as it gets for Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields. The former Ohio State Buckeye and his Chicago squad opened up the year with four straight losses, extending a winless streak that dated back well into last season.

That all ended on Thursday night though, as the Bears rolled past the Denver Broncos for a 40-20 victory. Fields was a driving force in the Bears' performance, recording 282 yards and four touchdowns, as well as 57 yards rushing, on the day.

That contest marks the Bears' first win since October of last season, and it has to feel good for Fields to finally get that chip off his shoulder.

The game also marked the second consecutive outing for Fields with four touchdowns. In Week 5, the former Buckeye's four scoring throws tied for the most that weekend, matching San Francisco's Brock Purdy.

For his efforts, the former Ohio State signal-caller was nominated again for the NFL's FedEx Air Player of the Week. It's the second nomination in a row for the award and Fields' big day might secure it for him, especially considering he brought the W home too.

Fields and the Bears are definitely trending upward after securing a 20-point win, but it's only one in a long season. Still, a second four-touchdown performance in a row is promising nonetheless and Fields is standing strong through the adversity.

If Chicago wants to help him continue this rhythm, they need to work on their protection up front. The Bears have given up 20 sacks this year, the third-worst in the league. Even in this most recent game, Fields was taken down without getting a pass off four times.

The Bears will host the Vikings in an NFC clash this Sunday and Fields will have a chance to continue his impressive run.
