Ohio State-Michigan Named 'Most Heated' College Rivalry
Where does "The Game" rank among all college sports in terms of rivalries?
Well, second to none, that is where 247Sports put the Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines rivalry, making it the "most heated" in all college sports.
"These two programs ranked inside the top 15 in each of the past four meetings, with Michigan's consecutive wins during the 2022 and 2021 seasons pushing the Wolverines to the Big Ten Championship (and playoff)," 247Sports said of the two programs. "See how much this rivalry means to college football?"
247Sports describes "The Game" as a "bitter fight," which has certainly lived up to that billing over the years. However, despite the Buckeyes holding bragging rights over the Wolverines for most of this century, Michigan's recent success has made it seem unpredictable.
Not many expected Michigan to beat the then-one-loss Buckeyes in 2021, who had gone on a tear since losing to Oregon in the second week of the season. But Michigan pulled the upset and edged the Buckeyes out of the Big Ten title game and the College Football Playoffs.
They'd even replicate it this past season, beating Ohio State 45-23 in Columbus. But luckily enough for the Buckeyes, it didn't eliminate them from the playoffs.
Michigan's two-game winning streak will certainly make their next matchup a must-watch game like a North Carolina-Duke game in college basketball, the difference being the Buckeyes and Wolverines only meet once a year and a berth to the Big Ten title game and the CFP is usually on the line.
