Who is the favorite to win the Ohio State quarterback job come Week 1 of this season?

Most Buckeye fans would likely say Kyle McCord, seeing as he and Tristen Gebbia were the only two quarterbacks that played in the Scarlet and Gray game due to a finger injury that sidelined Devin Brown. And now it isn't just fans leaning towards the idea of McCord being the starter for Ohio State, as even Las Vegas has weighed in via their betting odds.

According to BetOnline, McCord is a -500 favorite to win the quarterback competition in Columbus and follow in the footstep of now Houston Texans' signal-caller C.J. Stroud. Brown, on the other hand, is a +300 underdog to win the job.

At least in terms of betting odds, McCord's lead is in spite of what many considered a lackluster spring game performance. The Buckeyes' offense, which in their defense was missing multiple contributors due to injury, got off to a slow start. Yet, McCord's 18 of 34 passing for 184 yards and a touchdown wasn't all that bad.

Compared to former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields' debut in the Scarlet and Gray game, McCord had a much more productive day. The current Chicago Bears quarterback completed just four of his 13 passes in the 2019 Scarlet and Gray game. This shows that despite it being a fully-padded exhibition, not everything translates from an actual game into a spring game.

Heading into fall camp, there is no expected timeline for when a new quarterback will be announced, but it seems the consensus is that Brown has some ground to make up if he is to win the starting job.
