There has been three names of strong candidates tossed around to be potential targets of Oklahoma State’s basketball head coaching vacancy. All three of those head coaches have since accepted jobs elsewhere, taking them off the Cowboys’ board.

The most recent hire is Danny Sprinkle, who was an ideal candidate for Oklahoma State, though he is expected to be the next head coach for the Washington Huskies, according to Jon Rothstein.

Sprinkle quickly impressed and earned himself a bigger job after an impressive 28-7 season at Utah State, which ended at the hands of Purdue in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. This comes a season after he made the NCAA Tournament in his fourth season with Montana State. He’s continually impressed with less resources, making him a prime candidate for bigger job openings.

WIth Oklahoma State moving on from Mike Boynton this offseason, they’re in the market for a new head coach. According to a source of CBS’, the Cowboys’ search is “a mess.”

“This job is falling lower in the pecking order, though I've been told [AD Chad] Weiberg has been able to be aggressive in his offers to a few candidates. I've heard everyone from Kyle Smith to Buzz Williams to Mark Byington to Ronald Nored to Amir Abdur-Rahim and many more, including DeVries, who is now spoken for,” CBS Sports wrote.

Both Dusty May and Darian DeVries took jobs elsewhere over the past few days. May was offered a five-year deal at Michigan, a school that had a better job opening than the one in Stillwater. DeVries’ job, though, is at West Virginia. From a resource and job opening standpoint, Oklahoma State might’ve been the more appealing job. The only team to fall below Oklahoma State in the Big 12 standings was West Virginia.

As has been mentioned plenty, the Cowboys and Weiberg have to move quickly and secure their next big hire. The only promising news at this time is that Weiberg is being aggressive in his offers and pursuits.
