Oklahoma State will soon have a representative for college basketball’s biggest stage.

The NCAA announced on Monday that OSU Athletics Director Chad Weiberg has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee. Weiberg will begin his five-year term on Sept. 1.

Western Athletic Conference Commissioner Brian Thornton joined Weiberg as the other appointee. The two will be part of a 12-person team responsible for seeding and other tasks related to the NCAA Tournament.

Weiberg will be the eighth person to represent the Big 12 on the committee. Iowa State Athletics Director Jamie Pollard is on the committee, with his term ending Sept. 1.

Weiberg’s uncle, Kevin Weiberg, was a previous appointee from the Big 12 while he was league commissioner.

Before returning to OSU, Weiberg worked in the athletic departments at Kansas State and Texas Tech. Weiberg spent four years as OSU’s deputy athletics director before beginning his current role in 2021.

Weiberg’s appointment to this committee adds to his list of responsibilities beyond his duties at OSU. In 2023-24, Weiberg is chair of the Big 12 Athletic Directors and is on the College Football Playoff Future Format Athletic Directors Focus Group.

Already a fixture of OSU athletics, Weiberg will get another opportunity to make his mark in college athletics.

"It's a great honor to have the opportunity to serve on the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee," Weiberg said. "I'm grateful to Commissioner (Brett) Yormark for the nomination to represent the Big 12 Conference at this dynamic time in college basketball. The NCAA tournament is one of the premier events in all of sports, and I look forward to working with (NCAA Senior Vice President of Basketball) Dan Gavitt, the NCAA staff and every member of the committee to continue that legacy and provide a memorable experience for all involved."
