Dillon Stoner Sets Career-Best in TCU Win

In filling in for Tylan Wallace, Dillon Stoner set a career-high in longest reception against TCU

STILLWATER -- The rumors started swirling on Thursday about Tylan Wallace, and they weren't good: torn ACL. By noon on Friday, Scott Wright of The Oklahoman had confirmed the rumors and that led us to the question of 'Who is going to replace him?'

Enter Dillon Stoner.

The redshirt junior out Jenks, OK didn't just agree to try and fill in, he willing, and rather enthusiastically agreed to step in.

"The way I look at it is, you play football with 11 players, and you've got people that are ready on go," said Spencer Sanders. "Earlier in the week, someone asked a question that just kind of came up out of the blue, 'Who's going to play Z?' Stone stepped up, kind of bulked up his chest and said 'I'm going to play Z.' Kind of watching him do that, just kind of showed me that he's ready. I know him personally like that, he's probably the hardest worker I have seen in my life and the hardest worker on this team and the best leader. So, I feel like he did his role today and he probably could've had three touchdowns if I didn't under throw him on the interception, but we're going to leave that in the past. He really stepped up."

It wasn't long into the game when everyone discovered that Stoner wasn't just some fill in receiver, he came to play.

He may have only finished the game with three receptions, but they were game-changing receptions, two of which ended with touchdowns. Not to mention, he set a career-long 57 yard reception and his third-highest yardage total of his career at 93 yards.

"You've always got to be ready to play," Dillon Stoner said. "I hate that for Tylan, I would change places with him in a heartbeat, really, but I knew it was my opportunity and I just watched his film as much as I could to try and learn as much as I could in a short amount of time and I was able to make a few plays today."

It was a grind today for Oklahoma State as they faced a tough TCU defense without not only one of the best receivers in the country in Tylan Wallace, but without starting center Johnny Wilson.

Despite the hardships, Oklahoma State was able to do what no team has ever done to Gary Patterson: have a 200-yard rusher and rush for over 300-yards as a team. Chuba Hubbard rushed for 223-yards and two touchdowns, and the Pokes combined for 301-yards of rushing.

That opened up the air for the Pokes and Spencer Sanders, the few amount of times they did, but they were successful. Sanders threw for 158-yards and two touchdowns on 9-of-15 passing.

The Cowboys have a the week off as they've entered an open week, they're second of the season. It will allow them to get healthy and prepare for a Kansas team that's itching for a win
